Expert trainer in biportal endoscopic surgery

Dr. Covaro invited as an expert on the subject

I am very pleased to have had the opportunity to attend the Hospital del Mar in Barcelona as a guest trainer in biportal endoscopic surgery, an innovative technique that is transforming the treatment of spinal pathologies. It was an honor to share knowledge and experience with the hospital's medical team, while performing advanced procedures in two complex clinical cases.

On this occasion, I had the privilege of operating on two patients with lumbar canal stenosis at L4-L5 level and a herniated disc at L5-S1, two conditions that significantly affect the quality of life of patients by causing pain, loss of mobility and other neurological symptoms.

Biportal endoscopic surgery: precision and accelerated recovery
Biportal endoscopic surgery is a minimally invasive approach that allows for interventions on the spine with extraordinary precision. Unlike traditional techniques, this method uses two small incisions through which a high-resolution camera and surgical instruments are inserted. This allows us to work more efficiently, minimizing damage to surrounding tissues and ensuring a faster recovery for patients.

Both surgeries were highly satisfactory. The patients had severe symptoms of nerve compression, but thanks to this advanced technique, we were able to successfully decompress the affected structures. The most gratifying thing was seeing how, in less than 24 hours, both patients were discharged, pain-free and with a noticeable improvement in their mobility.

These types of interventions not only improve the quality of life of patients, but also represent the future of spinal surgery: shorter recovery time, fewer complications and optimal clinical results. I am grateful for the opportunity to be part of this type of advanced training and to contribute to the implementation of surgical techniques that benefit both patients and medical teams.
